Hemmoroids are irritations in or around the rectum and anus caused by irritated or inflamed blood vessels. While they are not life threatening, they can certainly be distressing. Most of them clear up on their own within a few days, but occasionally do not go away so easily. It is advisable to see a doctor when this happens.
