Self Powered Motorcycle Safety Device can help locate downed bikers

    Asmita Prasad:

Created by Atlanta-based designers Patricia Tait and Foroud Azimi, the Self Powered Motorcycle Safety Device with Alarm enables motorcyclists that have experienced an accident to call for help. Intended to reduce the time it takes for help to arrive on the scene, the device enables motorcyclists involved in an accident in a place that is hard to be seen (like secluded roads, reserves, parks and off-road tracks) to let out an alarm that could be heard by other motorists and passer bys.

The device is housed in a backpack and is connected to the back of the biker’s helmet and is powered by head movement. When the biker experiences an accident, the alarm is activated automatically by the sudden jerking of the head and the device starts to flash a powerful LED light and emits a loud siren. Thanks to this alarm system, even unconscious motorcyclists can be rescued.

The lights and the siren are also effective at pinpointing the location of the biker when the accident has occurred in a densely vegetated area or at night. The seat of the bike is also fitted with a kill switch that has enough “give” to allow the biker to stand up and manually detach the switch though it can also activate the alarm when the biker gets thrown off the seat.

Now talk heart to heart with the Love Messenger

    Shallu Sharma:

It has been rightly said that love is not measured about how you feel but how you make the other person feel. Though it is believed that lovers talk heart to heart but taking things little practically some gadget is requisite to make the connection possible. Love Messenger is a similar “Walkie-talkie” gadget that works with asynchronous Wi-Fi connectivity. The device helps you express your feeling especially when a simple conversation is not enough to put into words your feeling and emotions.

Using Love Messenger you can express your emotions without interrupting each other’s life and listen to the sweet talk whenever you have time. The device works in two stages, you simply have to record sweet message that gets delivered after 30 minutes via Wi-Fi. Time can be selected accordingly as 30 ‘, 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h, 24h etc. The interface of the gadget is in form of an LED screen concealed under the porcelain shell. Its working is carried out using only three buttons. Whenever some new message is received the device heats and lights up.

It has a simple and digital interface which is quite easy to use. Earphones, loudspeakers and USB charging port are hidden smartly in a way that only a single cloud-effect is visible when you get a message. The only concern may arise is about its heavy and dull make because of its porcelain crafting. But what makes Love Messenger interesting is it can bring two hearts close and let lovers express their feeling freely.

Wacom tech infused Toshiba tablet makes sketching on PC easier

    Asmita Prasad:

For sketching directly on the PC, a Wacom screen tablet is the ideal option though they are really expensive. The next best option is an Asus Slate EP121 however, it doesn’t offer the same ease of use. Designer Diego Garcia has created a Wacom technology-infused Toshiba tablet that offers the same benefits of higher end touch enabled sketching screens into a compact ultrabook. To make sketching easier and to make the tablet more fluid the bottom of the tablet is fitted with 4 rotating balls that allow it to rotate and move on the table while more comfort is provided with sloping and wider edges.

The Wacom pen that accompanies the tablet features a pressure sensibility of 2048 levels and can be used with high performance design software to get precise sketching results. The tablet runs on Windows 8 OS and comes pre-loaded with 256GB SSD drives, 8GB RAM memory and Intel Core processors. The IPS panel used on the tablet comes with a 1920×1200 pixel resolution with Wacom technology being used to make the 12.1″ multitouch screen more compatible with sketching needs.

The tablet is powered by a long-life battery and is recharged via an AC adapter. Speakers, audio output, microSD and SIM slots and two USB 3.0 ports allow the tablet to be paired with smartphones and PCs. To enhance the functionality of the tablet even more, the designer has created a dock with an extra battery, audio outputs, better speakers, Ethernet and HDMI ports, 3 USB ports, a multitouch touchpad and a complete keyboard as well.

Tuft Pula to inject a feeling of warmth with its womb like interior

    Jaspreet Kaur Walia:

One look at Tuft Pula, designed by “Numen/for use,” and you are bound to slip in a state of complete amazement. The astounding interactive sculpture, designed by the Austrian-Croatian studio, is nothing less than a piece of art and has been fashioned largely using tape. The creators of Tuft Pula are known for crafting large scale sculptures and have managed to do a great job in this case as well.

Tuft Pula, large scale interactive sculptures made using tape

Tape is an adhesive material that is used to stick things, but in this case was exploited to come up with the structural framework. The whole design has been brought to life by making good use of tufting technology. The space is habitable and has been given an organic shape, which will make eyes do a cartwheel in admiration. Lending the space much needed warmth and a sense of total pleasure is the heavy use of red. The inside has been meticulously lined with red colored carpet that is well spread all across the floor, divided into 2D segments.

On the other hand, the outer skin of the sculpture gives a very rugged look as the other side of the carpet lining has been left exposed intentionally. Such a rough presentation creates a drastic contrast to the softness executed by the res colored inside. Once seated, you will feel as if nestled inside a warm space where one can sit for long hours away from the hustle bustle. The womb like effect will help soothe frazzled nerves and presently dangles 4 meters above the ground in Pula, Croatia.

Dhow Superyacht offers modern luxuries aboard a romantic middle east inspired vessel

    Asmita Prasad:

Designers Tracey-Jayne Canavaggio and Pieter van Geest from Amsterdam-based design studio Van Geest Design are the brains behind this superyacht design named 60m Dhow. Traditional trading dhow vessels were the inspiration behind the 60-metre sailing concept that offers a simple lifestyle on board with its superyacht quality build offering a seductive vision on the water.

A romantic image of the Middle East is presented by the design element of the Dhow mainly through the use of lateen sails. Developed with Formula Marine, the sail plan is one of the main features of the exterior. With this vessel, tacking is not intended to be straightforward with an automated and easy to use sail system using automatically raised mizzen sails that are dropped before the main boon can cross over.

A dining/lounge area can be made out of a modified recess on the foredeck that is used to house a seven-meter tender. The wooden sailing yacht can accommodate 12 crew members and 10 guests with the space at the front of the engine room being used to house guests and crew and the owner and their family being housed in dedicated living quarters situated in the aft lower deck.

The space towards the aft features a balcony, an office and the owner’s lounge with the main deck featuring a dining table capable of sitting 10 and the main salon. Uninterrupted views of the surroundings are offered to the owner when the bulwarks in this part of the vessel are folded down. To maximize comfort and enjoyment, a Jacuzzi with sun pads on either side is located between the aft cockpit and the owner’s office.

Microsoft’s see through screen defies all existing technology norms

    Sahil Khurana:

Microsoft has always surprised us with the advanced technology and futuristic gadgets. Their uniqueness sets in when they really bring about some happening models right out of their kitty. As of now, researchers Jinha Lee and Cati Boulanger working in Microsoft have come up with a transparent computer screen, all set to amaze you with yet another Microsoft creation.

    See-Through 3D Desktop
    See-Through 3D Desktop

Their approach towards the modernization of the gadget has made use of a Samsung OLED screen, bringing forth a revolution in the way we perform our day to day functions. Their designer computer screen has put everything in motion, but not in the usual way we perform our duties.

Normally, when you look at a basic computer’s design, the keyboard and mouse come first, followed by the computer screen. However, the whole scenario has been reversed, bringing with it a re-customized design in its wake. The screen has been made transparent, while the keyboard has been fitted behind the screen. The user needs to deal with 2D and 3D images, giving them a larger than life approach. The screen’s preview is adjustable, letting you adjust your line of view accordingly. The software can be adjusted on the screen, letting you pick and choose with the flick of a hand. The images get accustomed to your hand movements, letting you decide which one to choose from.

In conclusion, all that can be said is that the wicked See through 3D display from Microsoft is going to get a lot rolling apart from just the user’s eyeballs. It will definitely take some time to get used to this new concept. But once fully launched, it will be a show stealer for sure.

Water Discus Hotel takes luxury under water for a serene retreat

    Radhicka S Saxena:

    The concept:

People jump at new and innovative vacation ideas and this new holiday spot will definitely create hysteria. Constructed underwater, the Water Discus Hotel is absolutely marvelous. What adds to the sensation is the fact that it has a disc like form like an outlandish space ship. The phenomenal structure consists of two discs; one built above the water level while the other one located 10 meters below the surface. Three perpendicular pillars run through the two discs and are linked by a fourth assembly that accommodates the elevator and staircase. The fantasy builds on inside the hotel also as it has a host of groovy features for residents. The hi-end structure will have top notch hospitality.

    The Inspiration:

The depths of the ocean and marine life have enchanted people for ages. There are so many marine junkies out there who want to know what hydrographic surroundings and natatory life is like. Hordes of people are magnetized by mysteries of the deep sea and study of oceanography and this fantasy can be actualized with advanced technology of today. This has incited a Poland based company called Deep Water Technologies to come up with this breathtaking project.

    The luxury:

A sabbatical in this spot will be totally worth it. Diving enthusiasts and pelagic aficionados will be utterly kicked about it. The terrain in the vicinity is quite interesting and comprises reefs and lush aquatic plantations. About 20 rooms will have a scenic view of the ocean. Moreover, living underwater does not imply that you will get isolated from the rest of the world as the place will be well connected via satellites and internet. Diving courses for beginners as well as advanced learners will be a lure.

    The adventure:

Fitting in fun and adventure along with luxury imbued amenities in an underwater venture is a must. People who freak over water sports will be raving about the place. Behold the spectacular view of rocks, reefs, colorful fishes and sea anemones on your adventurous tours and sporty activities. Beams of sunlight will pour through the aqua. The diving center is located right next to the residential zone. The well equipped center prepares you before you take a dip. Get a feel of deep diving or simply spend some time practicing in the decompression chamber. It is also outfitted with fast jet skis, water ski’s, and motor boats for diving. The deep sea exploration submersibles for three and underwater scooters are a joyride. The underwater airlock allows you to go down into the depth of the sea without the need to come up to the surface. The hotel parked underwater, also has some pursuits planned on the sandy shore for you.

    How safe is it?

It is obvious that safety and security will come to mind when talking about living or coasting underwater. But worry not, as the Water Discus Hotel guarantees this. Safety concerns were attended by the designers and also by the team regulating maintenance guidelines. Video surveillance and weather warning systems have been slotted in. It can withstand water currents and even extreme weather conditions like Tsunamis. In case of a hazard, the disc floats up to the surface. Moreover, the transparent enclosure keeps claustrophobia at bay. An international classification organization has been assigned to administer the design, construction and technical competence of the hotel. The firm is seasoned in the field of building and operating boats and ships. It also handles professional divers as well as offshore structures. The safety guidelines enforced will be renewed periodically and upgraded to meet the latest law enforcement standards.

    Where we are now?

Mountain cabins and sea side cottages are a thing of the past. The tourism industry is definitely moving ahead by leaps and bounds by applying cutting edge technology and getting creative. The Jumbo Stay airplane hotel in Switzerland, Kelebek cave hotel in Turkey and Hotel de Glace made out of ice in Canada are truly outrageous. And another promising niche in this industry is underwater tourism. Apart from scuba diving and snorkeling, some spots for marine enthusiasts are the Singapore Underwater World, Huvafen Fushi Resort at Maldives and the submarine trips by Atlantis Submarine tours at Caribbean and Hawaii. Jules’ Undersea Lodge located off the coast of Puerto Rico is one the earliest underwater hotels that commenced operations way back in 1986. Since then, such structures have mushroomed and many are currently under construction. Some of noteworthy projects are Hydropolis hotel in Dubai, 7 story hotel in Instanbul and the underwater plane proposed by Virgin airlines. However, putting the idea into action is not easy. The Poseidon Resorts in Fiji was supposed to open in 2008 but is still under construction.
