Link Building Techniques – a Fresh Look

Since inbound links became some of the most important Google ranking factors, many companies offering link-building services have been created online. Unfortunately, because of the huge demand for link building, the quality of many of those services seem to be giving way to quantity. As many clients do not understand how Google rank their pages, the lack of results in Google SERP over the short, initial period of time tends to be treated as a failure. In order to become “successful’ in their clients eyes, the link building consultants tried more and more ruthless techniques to get their clients pages on the top of Google. Thankfully, there are still companies that follow the best seo practice and those usually have very good reputation and achieve excellent long-term results.

So what are the most efficient link building techniques?

    • Guest Posts- remember “content is king’- it has been said so many times and it should be treated as one of the SEO’s The 10 Commandments:) If you offer a really well written blog post, which will save blogger’s time and bring the blog more publicity, the blog owner should be no less than happy with the opportunity! Why wouldn’t he? I know I would…
    • Article pages- You can also make use of links coming from articles that have been passed to article databases. These databases are free-of-charge but you have to make sure that your articles are of good quality. You have to usually follow some writing guidelines. Usually, the links can be placed in the author information field or within the article itself.
    • Twitter promotion- I am a big fan of twitter although I realize I haven’t been spending anywhere near enough time there(places to go, people to see – busy bunny). Google recently created Google shortener, which is an amazing tool for link building purposes! According to Matt Cutts, the shortener uses a 301 to redirect to the destination URL. So, simply the act of sharing a link on social networks and the resulting click-throughs could carry benefits for the downstream website. As you know there are many services that measure Twitter statistics, popularity and many social websites connecting with Twitter, therefore using these shortened URLs can be treated as a natural/ social link building itself. As an excellent example I would mention the Paper.li. I absolutely adore those pages! Have a look at a page that I created for #snowboarding http://www.paper.li/tag/snowboarding
    • Free stuff – everyone loves free stuff and everyone wants to grab high quality freebies that help and don’t cost a penny! You can create WordPress/ Joomla/Drupal themes and make them downloadable from your website or submit it to any theme directories. It’s also great (if the skill allows) to create widgets/ browser’s plugins or iPhone applications. Generally everything that makes people share it is a great idea (so have it in your mind when you create it as it should not have been created just for the sake of creation!)
